Running Ensemble Performance and Film

The Running Ensemble performed their inaugural performance of the Anthem in the Grand Hall at Battersea Arts Centre on the 27th of May.
It was a brilliant event with euphoric highs and a great audience.

A film is now being edited of the work, and will be shown later in the year at Battersea Arts Centre.

Many thanks to all members of the Running Ensemble, information about the forthcoming film will be posted here soon.

Echoing melodies

Last night (6th of May) was a great singing rehearsal - we learnt the 2 part harmonies for the Anthem - the whole song pretty much learnt and in our heads (thanks to James).
We ran around the block and back into BAC, using the microphones for the first time to amplify the sound of our breathlessness as we sang

Next week we're meeting at the start point of the route on the North side of Chelsea Bridge

Sprint Singing

29th of April saw us get more confident with verse one and two of the Anthem, but this meant we had less time for a proper run and sing.
So instead, we ran a shorter distance and did a sprint finish to the middle of the common....
This was a very different type of breathlessness, singing was hard and most didn't catch our breath till the end of the second verse
I liked how our confidence with the tune became totally corrupted by our inability to hold notes for long enough and even get words right
we talked about how perhaps this struggle expresses the experience of running more concretely

i think there might be a sprint finish in the performance (!)

My Fellow Runner

This week was our first running and singing rehearsal - we ran around Clapham Common, headed into the middle of the green and sang the Anthem - pretty good for a first attempt!
We talked about the similarity between the physical and mental concentration of running and breathing and singing and breathing, and how this made us forget that anyone might be watching our performance....
We also talked about being in a crowd of people, being taken up in the moment, and joining in with the drama or the spectacle of it all

The Running Ensemble is an on-going Running Club, you can join at anytime - please contact Sallyr@BAC.org.uk if you want to get involved.

Running Rehearsals

This Wednesday night was our second meet - we ran from Clapham Common to Wandsworth common, and around back through the busy Northcote Road, with a speedy sprint at the end to catch the traffic lights ahead.

Next rehearsal is a singing rehearsal on 8th April at 7pm - no training shoes needed....

**PLEASE NOTE**
Rehearsal this wednesday 8th April start time has been moved forward to 7:30pm!
